The first deputy chairman of the Russian Federation Council Committee on International Affairs threatens that Finland’s accession to NATO would make it a target for Russian retaliatory measures.

“If Finland joins NATO, Russia will respond immediately. Finland’s accession to NATO will make it a target for Russian retaliatory measures,” the Russian senator said.
Support for Finland’s membership has increased dramatically amid the war in Ukraine. A task force led by the foreign minister is exploring ways to strengthen national security, including possible NATO membership.
The Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin, has said that any decision on NATO membership should be made quickly and best of all – this spring.
