Russia is trying to bypass Western sanctions through Turkey – US Department of the Treasury

US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury said on August 19, 2022, that Russian legal entities and individuals are trying to use Turkey to circumvent American and Western sanctions during a telephone conversation with his Turkish colleague Yunus Elitas.

“Deputy Secretary Adeyemo raised concerns that Russian entities and individuals are attempting to use Türkiye to evade sanctions put in place by the United States and 30 countries.”

US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury also emphasized the importance of the efforts made by the civilized world to introduce new sanctions against the Russian Federation.

As reported, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the US Treasury Department published a list of countries through which the export of sanctioned goods to Russia and Belarus continues. These are countries such as Armenia, Brazil, Georgia, India, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Mexico, Nicaragua, Serbia, Singapore, South Africa, Tajikistan, Turkey, UAE and Uzbekistan.
