“When we talk about the Russian Federation, there are 2,161 Ukrainian orphans alone – those we have in the register – who were illegally taken by Russia,” emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories.

At the same time, the number of all Ukrainian children illegally taken to Russia, including those deported with their parents, may reach 150,000, as reported by the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets on February 17, 2023. He clarified that there are 16,207 children officially verified by Ukraine on the territory of Russia but in reality, this number is much higher.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin said that only 307 children were returned to Ukraine out of more than 16,000.
