Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has announced that the International Committee of the Red Cross has not been allowed to visit Ukrainian hostages contrary to the recent agreements reached by the Normandy Four leaders in Berlin, according to the presidential press service.
”Today, we`ve received an official refusal regarding the visit of representatives of the largest humanitarian mission – the International Committee of the Red Cross. Once again, they have been denied admission to our hostages,” the Ukrainian president said while accepting credentials from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Ukraine Jan Peklo.
”This is absolutely unacceptable when such agreements are not observed,” the president said.
He also noted the inadmissibility of disregarding the agreements on the ceasefire along the contact line in Donbas, eastern Ukraine. In his words, members of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) to Ukraine had once again come under fire.
Poroshenko reiterated that sanctions against Russia must remain in force if the Minsk peace agreements on Donbas and undertaken commitments are not fulfilled.
He also thanked Poland for its firm and consistent position in support of Ukraine regarding the European Union`s policy of sanctions against the aggressor state that must be not only prolonged, but also enhanced and extended in case of Russia`s failure to fulfill its commitments within the Minsk process.
