Russian President Vladimir Putin has seized Crimea using military force and aims to do the same in the east of Ukraine.
This was stated by former U.S. Secretary of Defense and former CIA Chief Leon Panetta, Radio Liberty reported.
Panetta said that at the very beginning of the conflict Putin had to show that he cannot use aggression to seize territories.
The official added that the threats Putin poses not only to Ukraine, but also to others must be addressed quickly, acting in a way that would make it possible to stop this kind of aggression. In his opinion, for this reason it is very important that the West has imposed sanctions on Russia, even though it took a long time.
