“Ukrainians must win this war, and Putin must witness a severe strategic defeat. It must be clear that invading a sovereign country will cost the aggressor dearly. We all stand for Ukraine. We are not just providing military assistance to the country, which is under attack, at the bilateral level from member countries, but also financial assistance for the purchase of military equipment for Ukraine, ” she explained.
According to von der Leyen, Putin mobilized his army to attack Ukraine, in response, the European Union mobilized all its economic power.
The sanctions imposed by the European Union are the hardest blow that the EU can deal with the Russian economy.
“Because Russia’s economy is not so modern, it is not diversified because it is based on the use of fossil resources. So if we want to hit the Kremlin’s ‘military chest’, if we want to devastate it, we need to get rid of dependence on Russia’s carbon resources.”
