The Polish Prime Minister has said he will propose a special compensation mechanism at the EU summit for those countries that will receive exemptions from the oil embargo against Russia if more compromise options are not agreed upon.

“100 days of Ukraine’s resistance to Russian invasion are approaching. We have to ask ourselves whether we did everything to end this war as soon as possible and to end it with a victory for Ukraine.”

Morawiecki also emphasizes that there is an attempt to build a consensus around countries that will receive exemptions from the oil embargo against Russia.

“We understand that there are countries that do not have access to the coast and therefore are condemned to transport oil only via pipelines. We have special solutions for them, but if these countries – including Hungary, of course – do not accept these solutions, Poland will demand the introduction of a special price equalization instrument, so that a country that uses Russian oil for longer will not be able to use it as competitiveness against other countries so that all price inequalities here will be levelled.”
