“I accepted the proposal of President Zuzana Chaputova to conduct a kind of lobbying mission on Ukraine among our colleagues in the EU, especially where there are doubts whether Ukraine should get this status quickly. We don’t doubt that Ukraine should get EU status as soon as possible.”

According to Duda, the granting of EU candidate status to Ukraine is important because “Ukrainian society now needs to feel it is accepted by the West”.

Ukraine has already submitted the necessary documents, as required by the European Commission, but the EU’s potential recommendation for granting candidate status must be approved by EU leaders.
