At the morning meeting, the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has recognized by an overwhelming majority the voting powers of representative of the Ukrainian delegation MP Nadiya Savchenko and has given her diplomatic immunity.
A diplomatic source in the PACE has said this to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“The powers of Nadiya Savchenko have been recognized by overwhelming majority at the meeting of the Bureau (PACE), despite lack of her presence in the Council of Europe,” a source said.
According to him, the corresponding document will be submitted to the procedural committee of the PACE, which will decide on granting diplomatic immunity to Savchenko.
The interviewee added that such a step will significantly increase the chances of her release from Russian prison.
“Such precedents have already occurred in the history of PACE,” the diplomat said.
