The decision to deploy in Donbas the armed police mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe should be taken by the organization`s Permanent Council, that`s according to First Principal Deputy Chief of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine Alexander Hug, who spoke at a Kyiv briefing Friday, an UNIAN correspondent reports.
Hug said that, as the OSCE stated earlier, the SMM is an unarmed civilian mission, the monitoring mission, which is regulated by the OSEC mandate approved by 57 member states.
If necessary, all of these 57 countries must unanimously support the corresponding changes to the mandate, and this decision should be made by the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna, he said, commenting on the likelihood of deployment of an armed police mission of the OSCE in Donbas in the context of the Normandy Four agreements.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on October 19, Berlin hosted talks involving President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
At a press conference following the talks, Poroshenko said that Normandy Four leaders approved the German and French proposals for the main criteria of ”road map” implementation of the Minsk agreements.
The Ukrainian president said that Russia had supported the need for the deployment of an armed police mission of the OSCE in Donbas.
