Normandy format may soon be ”resuscitated”: Poroshenko

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that talks with French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel may lead to resumption of the Normandy format in the near future, according to a UNIAN correspondent.

”My talks with the leaders of Germany and France give reason to hope that in the near future, despite any statement, the Normandy format will be resuscitated,” Poroshenko told Ukrainian diplomats in Kyiv during a joint appearance with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande on August 23.

The leaders agreed to stay in touch on the Ukrainian issue, in particular, to meet on the sidelines of the upcoming G20 summit in China on September 4-5.

They also discussed Ukraine`s internal crisis and the possibility of implementing the Minsk agreements by coordinating political and security measures.
