Most leaders of the APEC strongly condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine

The participants of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit strongly condemn Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and call on Moscow to completely withdraw its troops from the neighboring country. This is stated in the final declaration of the APEC summit, adopted on November 19, 2022.

“Most members strongly condemned the war in Ukraine and stressed it is causing immense human suffering and exacerbating existing fragilities in the global economy – constraining growth, increasing inflation, disrupting supply chains, heightening energy and food insecurity, and elevating financial stability risks,” noted the leaders of the APEC.

At the same time, “there were other views and different assessments of the situation and sanctions” among the  leaders of the APEC summit.

“Recognizing that APEC is not the forum to resolve security issues, we acknowledge that security issues can have significant consequences for the global economy,” added the APEC.

Uaposition memo: APEC is a forum of 21 economies of the Asia-Pacific region, which covers 40.5% of the world’s population, 54.2% of the world’s GDP, and 43.7% of international trade.
