This war cannot be won; sooner or later she must move from the battlefield to the negotiating table.

“The only question is how many more lives must be lost? How many more bombs must be dropped? How many Mariupols must be destroyed? How many Ukrainians and Russians will be killed before everyone realizes that there are no winners in this war – there are only losers? How many more people have to die in Ukraine and how many people around the world have to starve to stop it? Continuing the war in Ukraine is morally unacceptable, politically unjustified, and militarily absurd,” he said.

“Systematic bombings terrorizing the civilian population, shelling hospitals, schools, homes, and shelters are intensifying, becoming more destructive and unpredictable every hour,” he said.

Mariupol has been surrounded by the Russian army for more than two weeks, it is constantly being bombed, fired upon and attacked.

“For what? Even if Mariupol falls, Ukraine cannot be conquered city after city, street after street, house after house. The only result of all this is even more suffering, even more destruction and horror. The Ukrainian people are going through “real hell,” he said, and this is being felt all around the world: the rapid rise in food, energy and fertilizer prices threatens to escalate into a “global hunger crisis.”
