Merkel on Donbas: first, truce needed, then political part of Minsk II accords can be implemented

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says that first, a truce must be established in Donbas, and then the implementation of the political part of the Minsk Agreements can be started, an UNIAN correspondent in Russia reported following a press conference of Merkel and Putin in Sochi.

Once again, we have to remind of a zero point of the Minsk accords; that is a truce is needed, and then political steps would follow, Merkel said.

She stressed that the parallel work has already begun, but the truce is essential for further development.

Merkel also emphasized that Germany would make all the necessary efforts to move forward, despite all the difficulties.
