The European Parliament has welcomed the laws on a special local government order in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and on amnesty, which were adopted on September 16 under a motion from Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
This is stated in a European Parliament resolution “On the situation in Ukraine and the state of play of EU-Russia relations,” which was approved in Strasbourg on Thursday, Ukrinform’s correspondent reported.
“[The European Parliament] notes the laws on special status for some districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and on amnesty adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on September 16 as an important contribution to de?escalation within the implementation of the President of Ukraine’s Peace Plan,” reads the document.
MEPs also welcomed the president’s reform program, as well as the adoption of anti-corruption legislation in Ukraine.
European lawmakers stressed the need to continue the reform and association agenda in parallel with the continued struggle to ensure Ukraine’s territorial integrity and unity.
In addition, MEPs called on the European Commission to start preparing the third package of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine and demanded the speedy introduction of the visa-free regime for the state.
