“President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. spoke today with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy to offer his congratulations on her appointment. The leaders underscored the strong relationship between the United States and Italy, and expressed their readiness to work together within the transatlantic alliance to address common challenges. They discussed their commitment to continue providing assistance to Ukraine, holding Russia accountable for its aggression, addressing the challenges posed by China, and ensuring sustainable and affordable energy resources,” noted the White House.
The head of the Italian government, Giorgia Meloni, during her first speech in parliament on October 25, 2022, said that Italy would not succumb to Putin’s energy blackmail and would continue to support Ukraine. Giorgia Meloni also strongly supports providing Ukraine with weapons to fight against Russian troops.
