Kremlin: Putin, Poroshenko, Merkel, Hollande to meet on Oct 19

The Kremlin has announced a meeting of leaders of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany in the so-called Normandy Four format on October 19 to discuss the settlement of the Donbas crisis, according to Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

”[It is] expected on the 19th [of October] so far,” Yuriy Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, has said, RIA Novosti reported.

As UNIAN reported earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said on September 14 that he together with his Ukrainian and German counterparts had been preparing a meeting of the Normandy Four leaders.

Later, the Kremlin said on September 15 that the summit might happen only when there were ”real issues” on the agenda.

On September 23, deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential administration Kostiantyn Yeliseyev said that there was a consensus about the meeting of the Normandy Four leaders. The summit will take place only when all necessary documents have been prepared with due regard to the Ukrainian side`s interests, he said.

Later, the Kremlin announced that work was under way at the expert level to prepare the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
