In total, 81 individuals and nine organizations of the Russian Federation will be added to the list of persons whose assets are subject to freezing. Among them are pro-Russian separatists in the east and south of Ukraine, who are believed to be directly responsible for the annexation of Ukrainian territories. Also, senior government officials and military organizations will be sanctioned.

Later, the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan Kihara Seiji told reporters that the actions, which Russia calls “referendums” and “accession” to Russian territory, encroach on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and are a violation of international law.

He said Japan strongly condemned them, adding that his country would not accept attempts of the Russian Federation to unilaterally change the status quo.

Kihara stressed that Japan would continue to work with G7 members and the world community to push for tough sanctions against Russia.
