Italy will provide Ukraine with 3 air defense systems

The new package of military aid to Ukraine from Italy, in addition to the SAMP-T air defense system, will also include the Skyguard and Spike systems. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated this at a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on February 21, 2023.

“We have given the sixth package of military aid to Ukraine, which mainly concentrates on air defense to protect civilian infrastructure, because there is a cynical game being played to reduce civilian resistance, and this has to be answered. We have worked a lot on this together with France to quickly combine our technologies. The SAMP-T air defense system is very important, but the new aid package also includes other air defense systems – Skyguard and Spike. Today, the strategic goal is to protect critical infrastructure,” informed the Prime Minister of Italy,

Giorgia Meloni also noted that Italy would help Ukraine in demining. According to Giorgia Meloni, Italy provided Ukraine with generators to support the civilian population.

In addition, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a joint declaration on support and cooperation.

The declaration states, in particular, that the signatories confirmed their unwavering support for the principles of international law, the inviolability of borders and the right of each state to choose its own path and security mechanisms, and noted their readiness to remain fully committed to the policy of non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Ukrainian territories by Russia.
