“But above all, a country currently literally fighting for its survival against a military superpower should be able to hope for full EU membership and not some sort of partial membership or neighborhood agreement,” emphasized the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Ireland Simon Coveney.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Ireland, many Ukrainians were motivated by the dream of a different future, the future that people have today in the EU, from the point of view of peace, stability, prosperity, democracy, etc.

Simon Coveney added that in addition to Ukraine, other states, such as the Balkan countries or the former Soviet republics of Moldova and Georgia, should also benefit from EU enlargement.

“We have delayed the process of admitting some Balkan countries for too long. Of course, there must be mandatory standards that candidate countries have to comply with. But we also need to celebrate progress when it happens,” concluded the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Ireland.
