IAEA formed a delegation to visit Ukraine’s nuclear power plant

On August 27, 2022, it became known that the United Nations Nuclear Monitoring Organization has gathered a group of experts to visit the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is seized by Russians, next week. The delegation, which includes 13 experts, will be headed by the head of the nuclear agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi.

“The list of team members includes the head of the nuclear agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi from Argentina, and another 13 experts from countries that mostly stood aside from the war in Ukraine or maintained open channels of communication with the Kremlin.”

It is noted that the International Atomic Energy Agency mission included experts from Poland and Lithuania, Serbia and China. As well as representatives of Albania, France, Italy, Jordan, Mexico and North Macedonia.

Edwin Lyman, a nuclear energy expert at the Union of Concerned Scientists, said the IAEA visit would allow experts to check the status of all emergency systems, as well as the diesel fuel supply, and then take steps to replenish it.
