Hungary’s new President supported Ukraine’s accession to the EU and condemned Russia’s aggression

The new President of Hungary, Katalina Novak, declared her support for Ukraine’s European integration and condemned Russian aggression during her inauguration on May 14.

“We condemn Putin’s aggression, the armed invasion of a sovereign state. We say eternally no to every effort aiming at the restoration of the Soviet Union. The war in Ukraine was also fought against us peace-loving Hungarians”,  said Katalina Novak, adding that Hungary demanded that war crimes be investigated and punished.

She also said she supported Ukraine’s accession to the EU, and that Hungary would “be happy to mediate” between Ukraine and Russia.

Uaposition memo: 44 years old Novak,  became Hungary’s first female president and the youngest president in the EU. She replaced Janos Ader, who resigned after his second term.
