“A historic voting in Belgian House of Representatives: one more state recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people! I’m thankful to Belgium for this important decision for every Ukrainian, for this deeply symbolic step today!” Tweeted the President of Ukraine.

According to the decision of the Belgian lower house of parliament, the decision was supported by 117 members of the chamber out of 127. Another ten abstained.

“Belgium’s recognition of the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people is crucial in restoring historical justice, especially now during Russia’s genocidal war against Ukraine,” reported the Foreign Minister of Ukraine and thanked the House of Representatives of Belgium for honouring the millions of Holodomor victims and supporting Ukraine.

Belgium became one of more than twenty countries that recognized the Holodomor as a genocide of Ukrainians. In particular, in December 2022, this decision was supported by the European Parliament.
