Germany will hand over 18 tanks Leopard 2 to Ukraine instead of 14

The Ministry of Defense of Germany noted on February 24, 2023, that Germany would provide Ukraine with 18 major Leopard 2 A6 combat tanks, instead of 14.

“Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has decided to hand over another four Leopard2 A6 from Bundeswehr stocks to Ukraine. This increases the number of tanks supplied from 14 to 18 together with Portugal and Sweden makes Ukrainian battalion available in total,” tweeted the Ministry of Defense of Germany.

At the end of January 2023, the Government of Germany decided to give the Armed Forces of Ukraine 14 major Leopard 2 combat tanks.

German tanks as well as Marder infantry fighting vehicles should be delivered to Ukraine in the last week of March. Ukrainian crews are currently training to use this equipment.

The German Government also approved the transfer of 178 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine.

Earlier, it also became known, that the Netherlands together with Germany and Denmark will provide Ukraine with about 100 Leopard tanks.
