The MEPs of the European Parliament recognized Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.
“On Wednesday, Parliament adopted a resolution on the latest developments in Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine. MEPs highlight that the deliberate attacks and atrocities committed by Russian forces and their proxies against civilians in Ukraine, the destruction of civilian infrastructure and other serious violations of international and humanitarian law amount to acts of terror and constitute war crimes. In light of this, they recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and as a state that uses means of terrorism,” noted the European Parliament.
The European Parliament called on the EU member-states to impose more sanctions against Russia to isolate it completely.
“Against the backdrop of the Kremlin’s escalating acts of terror against Ukrainian civilians, the resolution further calls on EU member states in the Council to swiftly complete its work on a ninth sanctions package against Moscow,” said the European Parliament.
The Ukrainian President has already commented on this decision.
“I welcome the decision of the European Parliament to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and as a state which uses means of terrorism. Russia must be isolated at all levels and held accountable in order to end its long-standing policy of terrorism in Ukraine and across the globe,” the President of Ukraine wrote on Twitter.
