“When we say that Ukraine is Europe, and Europe is Ukraine, it means that accession negotiations should begin as soon as possible. I hope already this year. The future of Ukraine is in the European Union,” explained the President of the European Parliament.

Roberta Metsola emphasized that she was impressed by the pace at which the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) and the government are moving forward with regard to joining the EU.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola in Lviv (the largest city in the west of Ukraine) and thanked her for her leadership in supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war and for her support in the European Union.

On March 1, 2022, the European Parliament adopted a resolution supporting granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country for membership in the European Union. This happened on the second day after Kyiv submitted an application for membership.
