The European Union`s Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) has decided to extend for another six months, the sanctions imposed on 146 individuals and 37 companies in response to the violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, according to a UNIAN correspondent in Brussels.
”COREPER has confirmed the Council`s intention to prolong by six months the application of the EU restrictive measures targeting action against Ukraine`s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence (until 15 March 2017),” the statement said.
The statement added that the sanctions consist of an asset freeze and a travel ban against 146 persons and 37 entities.
The Council of the European Union is due to formally adopt the relevant legal acts.
”It is expected this will be done via written procedure,” the statement said.
No date has been set yet, but the legal act should to be adopted before September 15, the Council added.
The decision must also be published in the EU Official Journal.
