EC allocates EUR 550 mln for Chernobyl projects since disaster

The European Commission has allocated about EUR 550 million for the projects that relate directly to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant since its disaster, a representative of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas said in Brussels on Monday, according to an UNIAN correspondent from Brussels.
According to Schinas, after the disaster in 1996, the EC initiated a significant number of nuclear safety programs and cooperates with many international partners in order to improve the safety of nuclear power stations in the new independent states.
In connection with the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, a conference on nuclear safety is being held in Ukraine today, Apr 25, which is also attended by representatives of the European Commission, Schinas said.
