Early elections not to prevent ratification of agreement with EU in September – Poroshenko

Ukraine will ratify the Association Agreement with the EU in September and immediately send respective ratification documents to Brussels, and early parliamentary elections will not hinder this process.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said this at a meeting with EU High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in Minsk on Tuesday, the press service of the head of state reported.
“Our integration into the EU is our civilized choice, which is in no way directed against anyone. On the contrary, the agreement will have a positive impact on relations with all our neighbors, first of all in the economic sphere. We want our international partners to welcome our decision,” Poroshenko said.
He added that the agreement would remain unchanged and that its adoption would promote real reforms in Ukraine.
He also expressed hope that today’s consultations in the EU-Ukraine-Eurasian Troika format would facilitate the search for the dialogue, including in terms of economic cooperation.
“It’s important for us that our neighbors realize that the agreement between Ukraine and the EU carries no risks and losses for them. We are interested in mutually beneficial economic relations with all our neighbors and partners,” Poroshenko said.
He also said that as guarantor of the Constitution, he would guarantee free, democratic and transparent elections.
