Donetsk police chief: Militants release criminals from jails in exchange for service in ”DPR”

The criminals serving sentences in prisons in the Ukraine-uncontrolled territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions are being released by militants in exchange for joining the ranks of the so-called Donetsk People`s Republic (”DPR”), Chief of the National Police Department in Donetsk region Vyacheslav Abroskin wrote on Facebook.

”In the Yenakiyeve colony, the criminals who have committed the most serious crimes and sentenced mainly to life imprisonment, are granted ”amnesty” in exchange for military ”service” in the ”DPR” illegal armed group,” he said.

According to Abroskin, seven employees of the ”DPR” penitentiary system were arrested earlier this year, another 15 were declared wanted.

”The guards, who took the side of the terrorists, have become criminals. They would not escape responsibility for their crimes. Since the beginning of 2016, seven employees of the ”DPR” penitentiary system have been arrested, while another 15 have been put on the wanted list,” he wrote.

Abroskin also gave some examples from the life of the colonies located in the territory of the ”DPR”. Thus, in the Zhdanov colony, there is ”legal drug trafficking” : drugs are delivered and the convicts make purchases ”like in a supermarket.” The colony, in turn, serves as a sewing shop to produce uniforms for militants.

The Makiyivka colony is used by the ”DPR” militants as a location where they hold captured Ukrainian soldiers in custody, as well as the punished militants.
