Denmark is ready to limit entry of Russian tourists regardless of EU decision

The Head of Foreign Affairs of Denmark said on August 17, 2022, that he hoped that the EU would adopt a joint decision to ban the issuance of tourist visas to Russians, but if there is no success in introducing common EU rules, the government is ready to revise the Danish rules.

“If it is not possible to make a joint decision, on the Danish side, we will consider the possibility of introducing restrictions that will further reduce the number of Russian tourist visas,” said Jeppe Kofod.

The Minister also called it a “disgrace” Russian tourists can sunbathe in Europe, while Ukrainian cities are being “bombed beyond recognition.”

The Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kufud also noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s call to the EU Member States to close the borders for Russian nationals could happen soon enough.

It should be noted that Finland has decided to reduce the issuance of visas to Russians by 90% from September 1 and Estonia will not allow Russians with Schengen visas issued by Estonia from today August 18.
