Speaking at an international conference on aid to Ukraine in Copenhagen, the head of the British Ministry of Defence noted that these high-precision weapons are already helping Ukraine target Russian ammunition supplies and command centers.
The Defence Secretary announced the extra M270 rocket launchers, the Army’s most advanced missile system, as Ukraine prepares itself for a major counteroffensive in the south of the country.
“A significant number of precision-guided missiles with a range of 50 miles will also be supplied.”
He said Britain was “very pleased” with Ukraine’s use of missile launchers already provided by the West. According to him, the Ukrainian forces have shown that they are much better at distinguishing which targets to hit so that they do not quickly run out of ammunition. Wallace noted that this is part of Ukraine’s transition from using old Soviet-era weapons to more modern NATO weapons.
It should be noted that the first British M270 multiple rocket launcher systems arrived in Ukraine in July. The M270 system can hit targets at a distance of about 80 kilometers.
