US Secretary of State Antony Blinken congratulates on the day of solidarity with Belarus.

“On this day of solidarity with Belarus, we remember the suffering caused by the suppression of human rights by the Lukashenko regime, the neglect of international norms and complicity in the Russian war against Ukraine. We are with the Belarusian people today and every day.”

Belarus shares a border with Ukraine and Russia sent troops from there when it launched its invasion. Belarus’s long-time leader has given his backing to Russia’s invasion and critics have said he is little more than a vassal and accomplice to Mr Putin.

Although Belarus has provided a platform for Russian troops, it has not deployed its troops. Although it has launched rapid military exercises, which, as it said, do not pose a threat to Ukraine.

Belarus has already been under Western sanctions since the 2020 elections, and further action on its role in the conflict awaits it.
