Belarus imposes temporary entry ban against Ukrainian President`s envoy for Donbas settlement

The Belarusian side has banned from entering its territory the first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Iryna Gerashchenko, according to deputy chief of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration, Kostyantyn Yeliseyev, an UNIAN correspondent reported.
According to him, the Belarusian side, as well as Russia, has banned Gerashchenko from entering its territory, but on a temporary basis.
”Yesterday, we learned that the Belarusian authorities have decided to ban Gerashchenko from entering the territory of Belarus out of considerations that the appropriate restriction had been imposed by the Russian Federation,” said the deputy head of the Presidential Administration.
At the same time, he said, ”on behalf of the president, active diplomatic steps were taken, and we managed to obtain permission for Gerashchenko`s temporary entry to Belarus.”
Yeliseyev also stressed that the Ukrainian side would continue to make every effort to have this ban lifted.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Gerashchenko is the representative of Ukraine in the sub-working group on humanitarian issues of the Trilateral Contact Group on Donbas settlement.
Gerashchenko this morning announced her intention to seek the release of hostages by Easter at the meeting of a humanitarian subgroup in Minsk, scheduled for April 27.
In March 2016, Russia banned Gerashchenko from entering its territory until 2021.
