Austria froze Russian assets worth almost $2B

The Minister of Finance of Austria Magnus Brunner informed on April 20, 2023, on Twitter, that Austria has frozen Russian financial assets worth almost $2 billion.

“Today I received the US Under Secretary of the Treasury Brian Nelson, in Vienna. The strategic axis between EU & the US is of great importance especially in the light of the war in Ukraine,” tweeted the Minister of Finance of Austria.

According to Magnus Brunner, the effective application of sanctions against Russia is in the interests of Austria, Europe and the USA.

“We support Western sanctions against the aggressor [Russia – ed.] & have frozen nearly €2 billion in financial assets since the war began,” added the Minister of Finance of Austria.

Earlier, the Federal Ministry of Justice of Austria assured that the country, as a member of the Rome Statute, intends to arrest Vladimir Putin in the event of his appearance in the country.

In February 2023, a US court for the first time confiscated Russian assets in favor of Ukraine. It is about 5.4 million dollars of sanctioned oligarch Konstantin Malofeev.
