“At least 15 journalists were killed in Ukraine in 2022 following Russia’s full-scale invasion of the country on February 24. CPJ has confirmed that 13 of those were killed while engaged in newsgathering and reporting, and is investigating whether two others killed during the conflict lost their lives because of their media work,” explained the Committee to Protect Journalists.
It is noted that the 2022nd year was lethal for journalists around the world.
“At least 67 journalists and media workers were killed during the year–the highest number since 2018 and an almost 50% increase from 2021,” added the Committee to Protect Journalists.
The Сommittee informed that the significant increase was mainly due to a high number of deaths of journalists covering the war in Ukraine and a significant increase in the number of murders in Latin America.
