Ambassador explains why Turkey doesn`t join sanctions against Russia

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Ukraine Yonet Tezel explained the reason why his country had not joined the sanctions of the European Union against the Russian Federation, according to Europeiska Pravda.
This is the principled position of Ankara, which applies not only to the Russian question, Tezel said during a panel discussion ”The audit of foreign policy,” organized by the Institute of World Politics.
”If every time, we impose sanctions in support, when other countries impose them against someone, we will quickly realize that we are surrounded by states against which we have imposed sanctions,” the diplomat said.
The Ambassador added that, despite the non-adherence to the European sanctions against Russia, Turkey supports Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.
He also noted that even the current conflict between Russia and Turkey did not make his country abandon the policy of non-alignment to sanctions. ”Even after Russia imposed sanctions against us, you did not respond the same. Our choice – we need to keep calm,” he said.
