Almost 5,000 war crimes committed by Russian military in Donbas were recorded

The activists of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union documented 2,946 war crimes committed by Russian troops in the Donetsk region except for Mariupol, and in the Luhansk region, they documented 1,859 such episodes from February 2022 to December 24, 2022.

“In the Donetsk region, human rights defenders of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union recorded 1,433 episodes related to the deaths and injuries of Ukrainian civilians during shelling by the Russian army, and human rights violations: at least 1,184 people have been killed; at least 1,835 were injured; 61 people declared human rights violations; and 26 people are missing,” noted the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union.

In addition, human rights defenders recorded cases of forced mobilization and rape of Ukrainians in the occupied territory of the Donetsk region.

“398 such episodes were recorded in Luhansk region: at least 489 people have been killed; at least 456 were injured; 55 people declared human rights violations; 309 people are known to be missing; two people were raped,” added the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union.

Human rights activists point out that the kidnapping of people in the occupied Luhansk region is quite widespread. Among the abducted people, most are veterans of the Anti-terrorist Operation Zone, law enforcement officers, volunteers, representatives of local self-government and heads of local enterprises, as well as farmers.

Human rights activists collected evidence of 2,679 artillery attacks on populated areas of the Donetsk region, 286 rocket attacks, 25 cases of shelling by cluster munitions, two cases of mass deportation of people, and six cases of torture.

Also, human rights defenders have evidence of 1,389 artillery attacks on populated areas of the Luhansk region, 354 cases of looting, three cases of torture, three cases of mass deportation of people, and 10 cases of seizure of administrative buildings.
