Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy to create group to address logistic problems with grain exports

Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Kutoviy initiates the creation of a working group with representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Ukrzaliznytsia to solve the problems associated with the shipment of Ukrainian grain for export, the press service of the ministry said.

”My suggestion: let`s create a working group involving the management of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Ukrzaliznytsia [Ukrainian Railways]. And we will solve this problem. Exports have good prospects for growth. If today we don`t made adjustments, tomorrow we will see even more complications,” the Minister said.

The press service noted that, given the tendency for increased volumes of export of Ukrainian grain, our country needs to solve a number of problems with its transportation. In particular, to increase the capacity of rail transport, to enhance the repair of roads, as well as to develop river transport.

According to the Ministry, currently the largest share in the structure of shipments of Ukrainian grain takes rail transport, which carries about 63% of goods. Road transport carries 31-32% of this production, river – 4-5%.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has increased its forecast of Ukraine`s grain exports in the 2016-2017 marketing year (July 2016 – June 2017) from 39.8 million tonnes announced earlier to over 40 million tonnes.

Since the beginning of the current marketing year, grain traders sent 10 million tonnes of grain to external markets, which is 0.5 million tonnes more year-over-year.
