90% of the residents of Melitopol say “no” to the Russian occupation, even at gunpoint

The mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov stated on August 9, 2022, that the citizens of Melitopol (south of Ukraine) will not support joining Russia, even under threats. Citizens have been resisting the Russian invaders for almost half a year, in spite of the occupation.

Fedorov assured that about 90% of Melitopol residents do not want to vote for annexation.

“The Russians thought that they would be able to hold a so-called “referendum” on our territory and began to study what residents thought about this. After the collaborators did a “survey” in the apartments, they were shocked: less than 10% are ready to support Russia.”

The mayor of Melitopol emphasized that this is despite the fact that people are actually under the muzzles of machine guns for 167 days. So, in such difficult conditions of occupation, the remaining 90% of the population openly says “no” to Russia.

The date of the quasi-referendum has been postponed more than once. The occupiers often punish Ukrainians for a pro-Ukrainian position by imprisonment, torture, and searches. Unfortunately, this very often happens now in the territories temporarily occupied by Russia.
