2.5 million Ukrainian people, including 38,000 children, have been deported to Russia

Khrystyna Hayovyshyn, the Deputy Ukrainian Ambassador to the UN, said during the United Nations Security Council meeting on September 7, 2022, that Ukrainians who were forcibly deported to Russia or Russian-controlled territories were being tortured and killed.

According to Deputy Ambassador, Ukraine decried Russia’s “filtration” scheme.

“Many thousands of Ukrainian citizens have been forcibly deported to the remote and economically weak regions of Siberia and the Far East. In particular, 2.5 million people, including 38,000 children, have been deported.”

Deputy Ukrainian Ambassador to the UN added that Ukrainian citizens were terrorized under the pretence of Russian authorities searching for “dangerous people.” People with opposing political views, or who are associated with the Ukrainian government and media, disappear into a “grey area”. Children are taken from their parents’ arms.

It should be noted that representatives of the Baltic States called on the UN to investigate the deportation of Ukrainians to the Russian Federation.
