1,400 policemen to protect Odesa against pogroms today

On Saturday and Sunday, August 2 and 3, public order in Odesa will be protected by about 1,400 police officers.
The press service of the Interior Ministry’s Main Police Department in Odesa region told a Ukrinform correspondent.
As the regional Interior Ministry department noted, public events are planned on Kulykove Pole (Kulykove Field). .
In order to ensure public order and security of citizens during these events, as well as to prevent riots, about 700 police officers will be involved to protect public order every day.
In particular, from the messages in social networks it is known that an action of Anti-Maidan supporters is planned for Saturday. Sunday, a protest may be held against Ani Lorak’s performance in Arkadia. Among the planned events there is also the tournament “Clash of the Titans 2014” to be held in the city park.
Meanwhile, according to the letter of the SBU department in Odesa region to heads of Odesa and the region, which Ukrinform published August 1, “August 2, leaders of radical social and political structures are planning extremist actions in Odesa to destabilize the situation by holding mass protest actions under an artificially formed pretext.”
According to the SBU, the radicals are planning actions near the City Hall (800 people) with the possible seizure of administrative buildings, including the buildings of law enforcers. Everything is planned to be accompanied with the arson and resistance to the police.
To remind, on May 2, in Odesa, there were mass riots that escalated into large-scale pogroms and led to numerous deaths.
