December 31 – No Ukrainian military were killed, one soldier was wounded in the ATO area in the last 24 hours, – said NSDC spokesman Andriy Lysenko. Terrorists are “beefing up” by transferring new units to the border line near Donetsk, Debaltsevo, Pervomaysk, Stakhanov and Severodonetsk. According to intelligence data, terrorists’ units are being rotated and new units of Russian Armed Forces are arriving in Donetsk and other cities. Some of them are disguised as fighters of “People’s Republic of Donetsk”. According to operational data by “Information Resistance” group, for two days terrorists were trying to break into rear positions of Ukrainian troops close to Donetsk.
December 31 – Ukrainian military have planted mines at some costal parts of Sea of Azov. They could be trying to prevent the attack by Russian troops from the sea.
December 31 – In a televised New Year address, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel emphasized the unity of Europe as a key to resolving crisis in Ukraine and strengthening the power of law.
December 31 – Referring to Russia in a televised New Year address, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that there is no doubt “that Europe cannot agree and will not agree with the so-called law of the strongest, who despises international law”, – quotes Merkel Information Agency epd. It is from the “position of the strongest” Russia is currently operating in eastern Ukraine, thinks Merkel.
December 31 – Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated heads of state and government on the upcoming New Year. In particular, he has sent his greetings to US President, President of Belarus, President of Kazakhstan the Chancellor of Germany. According to Kremlin’s website, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko hasn’t been included on this greeting list. This is just plain funny.
December 31 – The morale of the terrorists in eastern Ukraine is worsening and fewer locals want to become terrorists of “People’s Republic of Donetsk”, – informed NSDC spokesman Andriy Lysenko. In the summer the fighters suffered significant losses and haven’t been paid on time, thus the number of people wanting to become terrorists has significantly decreased.

That Ukraine can overcome the difficulties facing it and take a dignified seat in the European Union is the conviction of the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Arseniy Yatseniuk. Such a conviction the head of the government voiced in his New Year greetings, published on the site of the Cabinet. “Right now everyone is thinking what will happen tomorrow. And this is natural. A person wants to know how life will be, is there an assurance that tomorrow will be better than today.
There is such an assurance. There is an assurance and a faith in that together we shall all overcome. That our country will be an exemplary country in the European Union. That our Ukrainian family will be a dignified European family with a Ukrainian passport, and that with this passport it will be easy to move throughout the entire EU territory, it is said in the greeting. The Prime Minister underscored that the year which is passing, both for Ukrainians and Ukraine became “an epoch of fighting for our freedom, for our independence, for our right to life.” “We struggled, we fought, and we overcame. We preserved our nation and our future,” emphasized he.
