This is Ukraine today – October 2

Maidan Community Sector, Lviv: Dear friends!

War, not the expected peace arrived at the doorstep of Great Britain and France when they gave up Czechoslovakia to Hitler in 1938. War is happening right here at home and not in faraway Europe – the United States were harshly reminded about this at Pearl Harbor in 1942. War descended on Ukraine and thus is now much closer to Paris and Berlin, because Europe and the US haven’t supported Georgia in 2008. War showed up in the homes of Dutch, British, French, German, Australian families because Europe and the US weren’t courageous enough to lend a helping hand to Ukraine in 2014. It is impossible to run away from war and overwhelming aggression, it is impossible to buy yourself off. The war will catch up with you if you don’t stand up to it with utmost determination.

October 2 – Crimean Tatars found themselves in a difficult situation in Crimea, which was occupied by Russia – Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks. Their security is threatened after a series of raids carried out by armed masked men at religious institutions, schools, homes and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

October 2 – Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Bohuslav Sobotka strongly rejected the idea by former Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg to assist Ukraine in fighting against Russian aggression using all available means, including the supply of weapons.

October 2 – An attack by the terrorists continues at Donetsk airport, there have been no casualties among Ukrainian soldiers – NSDC spokesman Andriy Lysenko.

October 2 – Russia has decreased gas transit through Ukraine by almost 40%.

October 2 – Russia is using Donbas as a testing ground for new weapons, – said Defense Minister of Ukraine Valeriy Heletey, who presented the latest Russian ammunition able to penetrate armor. These cartridges were collected in Donbas by Ukrainian intelligence agents.

October 2 – Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a monitoring resolution recognizing that Russia has sent its regular troops into Ukraine. The Assembly has called on Russia “to stop providing any military support to the rebels, and withdraw its troops from the East of Ukraine and Ukraine’s border as well as refrain from any action that could directly or indirectly exacerbate the situation in the East of Ukraine”. All it took for this resolution to be adopted was “only” 8 months of Russian aggression in Ukraine!
