The press service of the nature reserve Askania-Nova informed on March 25, 2023, that Ukrainian biosphere reserve Askania-Nova in the Kherson region (south of Ukraine) is under the control of Russian soldiers.

On March 20, 2023, the first deputy head of the administration of the President of Russia arrived at the nature reserve together with Russian collaborator Volodymyr Saldo and an unknown person in the role of director.
“Thus, the further preservation of the nature protection and scientific research institution of international importance – the biosphere reserve Askania-Nova cannot be ensured by the Ukrainian administration and is under immediate threat,” emphasized the press service of the nature reserve Askania-Nova.
The press service of the nature reserve Askania-Nova noted that the staff continues to fulfill their duties and provides the necessary care for the collections.
In 2022, Russian military occupied the Askania-Nova Animal Breeding Institute.
