EU countries reached an agreement on the 8th package of sanctions against Russia

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen noted on Twitter on October 5, 2022, that the ambassadors of the EU member states agreed on a new sanctions package against Russia. It was developed in response to Russia’s attempt to annex the territories of Ukraine and the holding of fake referendums in the temporarily occupied territories.

“I welcome the Member States’ agreement today on the 8th sanctions package. We have moved quickly and decisively. We will never accept Putin’s sham referenda nor any kind of annexation in Ukraine,” Ursula von der Leyen wrote on Twitter.

According to the President of the European Commission, the goal of the European Union is to make the Kremlin pay for all its crimes.

The eighth package of sanctions includes, in particular, price restrictions on Russian oil and a ban on the import of a number of goods from Russia. There will also be a ban on the provision of IT, engineering, and legal services to Russian entities.

Limitation of oil prices should minimize the Kremlin’s income from the sale of oil abroad, in particular, the transportation of oil by shippers from the G7 countries to the countries of Asia and Africa.
