The new package of sanctions against Russia proposed by the European Commission will apply to more than 1,300 individuals and organizations.

“This list targets key decision makers, oligarchs, senior military officials and propagandists, responsible for undermining Ukraine’s territorial integrity.”

New sanctions will be applied to Russian-appointed representatives of “authorities” in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, as well as persons who organized and facilitated the sham referendums in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

In particular, according to Josep Borrell, the sanctions will target senior officials of the Russian Defense Ministry, including Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, and those who support the Russian armed forces by providing military equipment and weapons.

“We also continue to target actors who spread disinformation about the war. In particular, those spreading false information and donating funds to the Russian occupied areas.”
