Russia wants to hold “referendums” in the occupied territories of Ukraine in order to “annex” them to Russia. Ukrainian Foreign Minister has already responded to this statement on September 20, 2022.

Pseudo-referendums in the occupied territories will not change the situation. Because Ukraine will liberate them from Russian troops in the future, having the right to do so.
“Neither fake “referendums” nor hybrid “mobilization” will change anything. Russia was and remains an aggressor state which illegally occupies part of Ukrainian land. Ukraine has the right to liberate its territories and will continue to liberate them no matter what they say in Russia,” Dmytro Kuleba wrote on Twitter.
The deputy of the Russian Security Council, Dmytry Medvedev, said that after the Russian Federation holds “referendums” on the territories of Ukraine and “annexes” them to Russia, “the geopolitical transformation in the world will become irreversible. And encroachment on these territories will allegedly be a crime, which will allow Russia “to use all methods of self-defense.”
