Yeliseyev urges EU not to delay adoption of further sanctions

Ukraine’s Mission to the European Union has called on European partners not to delay the entry into force of further restrictive measures against Russia.
This is stated in a commentary by Ukraine’s Representative to the EU Kostiantyn Yeliseyev, which was obtained by Ukrinform.
“We welcome the adoption by the EU member states of a new package of restrictive measures against Russia as part of the third level of sanctions pursuant to the decision taken at a special meeting of the European Council on August 30. We call on European partners to promptly implement this important decision to change the behavior of the aggressor and ensure the fulfillment by the Russian side of the conditions clearly set out in the conclusions of the European Council,” the ambassador said.
According to Yeliseyev, recent agreements reached at a meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group must not be misleading. Until now the Russian side has not fulfilled the key requirements of Ukraine and the EU. Also, he said, it is unnecessary to forget about Crimea, the annexation of which will never be recognized by the international community.
“Only a clever combination of diplomatic efforts and consistent motivational pressure from the EU can create favorable conditions for the implementation of the peace plan of the Ukrainian president on the basis of ensuring the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and the European choice of Ukraine,” he said.
