Yanukovych`s son trying to sell Donbasenergo – media

Oleksandr Yanukovych, who is the son of Ukraine`s disgraced ex-president, and Donetsk businessman Ihor Humeniuk have decided to sell Donbasenergo, the only private power generating company that is not controlled by Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov, according to LІGA.net.
”As of today, Donbasenergo consists of two thermal power plants (TPP). Both of them have been experiencing problems. Starobeshivska TPP is operating in the territory of Donetsk region beyond government control, and since the beginning of 2015, it has received no money from Ukraine for sold electricity. During 2014-2015, Slovianska TPP periodically halted production due to lack of fuel in storage,” the report says.
It is noted that Donbasenergo is entirely dependent on supplies of coal from the Donbas conflict zone or Russia. Both TPPs are working on anthracite coal, which is produced in the militant-controlled territory exclusively.
The company was founded by a former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Party of Regions, a businessman Ihor Humenyuk.
However, he is only one of the two main owners of Donbasenergo.
According to the head of the Donetsk regional military and civil administration Pavlo Zhebrivskyi, a 34% stake in the company is owned by Oleksandr Yanukovych, son of the ousted ex-president of Ukraine.
The presence of the family of the former president in the capital of Donbasenergo is also indirectly confirmed by a number of other facts. For example, in the middle of last year, the supply of equipment for Donbasenergo from Russia was financed by a Donetsk-based Mako Invest, which is formally controlled by Oleksandr Yanukovych. Mako has denied involvement in Donbasenergo.
In addition, in the first half of 2015, one of the main suppliers of coal for Slavyansk TPP of Donbasenergo was Chervona Zirka factory. The main owners of the factory are the structures of the elder son of ex-president Yanukovych.
The current owners have been looking for a buyer for several months, a senior official in the previous government said.
Information about the owners` plans to sell Donbasenergo was also confirmed by a top manager of a major Ukrainian energy company.
”As far as I know, a buyer has not been found,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ihor Humeniuk did not comment on this information. ”Everything that concerns Donbasenergo is confidential,” he said.
